The Exhibition
Making use of large size pictures, the exhibition Let Me Be Myself - The Life Story of Anne Frank shows the story of Anne Frank from her birth in 1929 up to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. Each exhibition panel also contains images and texts about the world around Anne Frank: the rise of Hitler, the persecution of the Jews and the Second World War.
Young people today
One third of the exhibition is dedicated to stories of young people today. This part also contains several film clips. The visitors get to know how these youngsters see themselves, but also how strangers respond to them. This makes clear what the role of prejudice can be and how this can lead to exclusion and sometimes even discrimination.
The exhibitions has several objects on display, among them: a replica of the diary of Anne Frank and a scale model of the hiding place. There are two different versions of Let Me Be Myself. The large exhibition contains a spacious impression of the room in which Anne Frank was in Hiding. In the smaller banner version this room is integrated in the content on the panels.
Peer Education
The educational programme in Let Me Be Myself is usually conducted by students. Making use of an international research by the Anne Frank House in 2013 and 2014 the content and design of the exhibition were adapted in order to best serve the peer educators. Before they start with their work, the guides receive a one or two day training by the Anne Frank House or its local partner. The students get to know the content and they learn how to interact with the visitors. They can make use of the educator manual that includes instructions how to convey the content, what questions to ask and how to moderate a discussion. Moreover, the educator manual contains several practical assignments and worksheets to be used by the visiting school class.
